The deal comes ahead of the series' launch in Saudi Arabia next month.

Extreme H, the nascent hydrogen-powered off-road racing series, has unveiled a new deal with Japanese tyre brand Yokohama Rubber.

Through an agreement announced by Extreme H - which is provisionally scheduled to launch, through a World Cup-style event in Saudi Arabia in October - Yokohama becomes the tyre partner of the series.

The tie-up entails Yokohama supplying a prototype tire to Extreme H, with the product set to "feature strengthened durability essential for heavy hydrogen-powered and EV off-road vehicles."

Ali Russell, Extreme H's managing director, has now said: "As we break new ground in hydrogen motorsport, having a tyre partner with a proven track record of high performance and sustainability is critical. Yokohama’s innovation and global reputation make them an ideal collaborator as we push the boundaries of what’s possible - both on and off the track.”

Extreme H is the hydrogen-based spinoff of Extreme E, which canceled the remainder of its 2024 season after events in Jeddah (Saudi Arabia) and Scotland to prioritize the series’ transition to hydrogen.

The FIA - motor racing's governing body - initially planned for Extreme H to become an official world championship for 2026, but in December last year, it announced the launch of the Extreme H World Cup in 2025 instead.

Then, earlier this month, a week-long Saudi event was unveiled.

The new series will feature an off-road race format to showcase the viability of hydrogen power as a clean energy solution. Organizers will also prioritize gender parity within motorsports by fielding teams that have an equal number of male and female drivers.

Early July saw a broadcast deal with the UK commercial free-to-air network ITV unveiled.

In terms of sporting tie-ups Yokohama Rubber has outside motor racing, meanwhile, it is also a partner of men's tennis' ATP Tour.
