VRT deals with DAZN for Pro League highlights clips

The Flemish-language VRT has signed a deal for highlights rights to the top men's Belgian soccer league.

VRT, the Flemish-language public broadcaster in Belgium, has struck a highlights deal for that country's Pro League top-tier men's soccer competition.

This deal has been signed off by VRT and DAZN, the global sports subscription broadcaster which holds domestic rights to the Pro League in a five-season, $440 million deal running through to the end of the 2029-30 campaign.

Both VRT and DAZN have confirmed the deal, which is reportedly set to allow VRT to offer highlights, from each Sunday onwards, of each matchweek from the 16-team Pro League.

This follows on from DAZN striking a similar sub-licensing deal with the French-language Belgian public-service broadcaster, RTBF, announced earlier this week

These clips can be shown on the VRT online website, as well as on its mobile app and social media networks, while imagery from games will be made available on news programming on VRT, as well as on the Sportsweekend show on the VRT channel.

Currently, live action from the Pro League - with the 2025-26 season having got underway in late July - is only being made available on DAZN platforms, as carriage deals for live broadcasts (with the likes of telecoms firms Proximus and Telenet).

The RTBF agreement is a five-season affair through which that network will provide digital highlights of Pro League matches on Sunday evenings via its RTBF Actus and Auvio platforms.

Highlights will also feature in the La Tribune show on Monday nights on Auvio and TIPIK.

The partnership, in addition, includes the broadcast of short recaps during TV news segments and clips from one weekend match in the sports programme, 100% Sport.

The question of whether DAZN will strike deals with some of Belgium's telecoms operators - Telenet and Proximus, for example - around Pro League rights is still an open one, meanwhile.
