The country reached the semi-finals of the previous WWC, held in Australia and New Zealand two years ago.

Action from the 2027 FIFA Women's World Cup (WWC) soccer tournament will be shown in Sweden by both Telia-owned TV4 and public-service broadcaster SVT.

A deal to that effect, covering the tournament in Brazil in two years, was unveiled by the Swedish networks yesterday (August 27). The 2027 WWC, containing 32 teams, will be held in South America - the first time that region stages the event - between June 24 and July 25.

For the last WWC, which took place in 2023 across Australia and New Zealand, NENT (now the Viaplay streaming service) covered that tournament in Sweden. That edition saw Sweden lose out in the semi-finals to eventual winners Spain, but then recover to win the third-place playoff against hosts Australia.

TV4 and SVT, meanwhile, have already struck joint rights deals to cover the men's 2026 FIFA World Cup and 2028 UEFA men's European Championship.

For the 2025 UEFA Women's Euro (held in Switzerland across July this year), SVT and Viaplay showcased the tournament jointly.

In terms of other top-tier soccer rights held by TV4, the broadcaster also domestically covers Swedish men's top two divisions, through a deal announced last October which runs through the 2026-31 cycle.

The European qualifying campaign in advance of the 2027 WWC gets underway in November this year, and is comprised of a league phase followed by playoffs.
