DAZN, the international sports streaming service, has appointed long-serving Foxtel Group executive Rebecca McCloy to lead its global commercial operations.

She has been hired to a global role as DAZN’s group chief commercial officer based in Europe, reporting to chief executive, Shay Segev.

McCloy will be responsible for overseeing global rights and acquisitions at the company, working with local teams across DAZN’s markets, “to fuel business growth through commercial initiatives that drive fan engagement.”

She has spent over 12 years as executive director of commercial and sport at Australian media heavyweight Foxtel. Adam Howarth, currently director of content acquisitions and sports partnerships at Foxtel, will succeed McCloy.

In his new role, Howarth will lead Foxtel’s sport acquisition strategy and its content, channel, and commercial partnerships across Kayo Sports, Fox Sports Australia, and Foxtel.

He will report to Foxtel Group CEO Patrick Delany and work closely with McCloy. The appointments are effective from early November.

Howarth’s career at Foxtel spans 30 years, where he has worked across sport production, channel management, Fox Sports News, and - more recently - acquisitions and partnerships.

Marc Watson, DAZN’s current chief commercial officer and former Eleven Sports CEO/co-founder, will transition to a newly created role supporting DAZN Group CEO Shay Segev on strategic projects, meanwhile.

DAZN acquired Foxtel for A$3.4 billion ($2.2 billion).

Segev said: “Rebecca is highly regarded across the global sports landscape, having played leading roles in securing both Australian and international commercial deals for Foxtel Group, solidifying its position as Australia’s sport leader. Her experience will be valuable as we continue growing DAZN as the global home of sports.”

McCloy added: “It’s been a privilege to work with some of the great off-field leaders in Australian sports to expand audiences for their codes and develop sport at the grassroots levels.

“I’m so proud of the experiences we’ve delivered to Australian sports fans and the relationships that we’ve built with the teams along the way. I’m thrilled to have the opportunity to work in this global role with DAZN, and to maintain my relationship with the Foxtel Group as we unlock exciting opportunities ahead.”
