Aser Ventures, the global investment company of Italian sports and media executive Andrea Radrizzani, is considering selling some of its minority stake in global sports subscription broadcaster DAZN, according to reports.
Aser has had its holding in DAZN since 2023, when the streaming heavyweight bought the Eleven Group broadcaster, which had previously been owned by DAZN.
The original Aser stake in DAZN was around 5%, which at that point was valued at $400 million. Since then, however, it has diminished.
The investment firm, if it does sell part of its DAZN stake, would likely do so to fund future investment plans.
In a statement to the Reuters publication, Radrizzani said: "We are exploring a range of options, from pure financing to hybrid solutions and equity investments."
He added: "We could use all or part of Aser's stake in DAZN to finance Aser's expansion ... as a result, our stake in DAZN could be reduced."
Radrizzani, formerly owner and chief executive at English Premier League soccer side Leeds United, also told Reuters that Aser, if it does sell a stake, would want to partner with "funds or family offices, particularly those that already have exposure to the sports-tech sector."
In terms of DAZN's financials, it lost a staggering $1.4 billion in 2023, before trimming that figure to a loss of $936 million the following year.
The company is backed financially by British-American billionaire Len Blavatnik, and holds key domestic and international sports rights in markets across Europe, such as Italy, Germany, and Spain, as well as in Japan and Canada.
Meanwhile, DAZN has extended its distribution deal with media and entertainment heavyweight Warner Bros. Discovery (WBD) across Germany, Austria, and Switzerland (the DACH region).
Through the renewal, the Eurosport 1 HD and Eurosport 2 HD channels will remain available to DAZN subscribers across those countries.
Eurosport's live sports rights stable in DACH includes top-tier tennis, cycling, and winter sports - as well as the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles, US.
This week has already seen DAZN extend its exclusive rights deal with Italian soccer's top-tier Serie A in the DACH region.
