The World Athletics governing body has launched a revamped direct-to-consumer (DTC) streaming platform for fans to follow the sport globally.

World Athletics+ was rolled out this week as the new name and identity for the organization’s fan platform previously known as Inside Track.

The rebranded service offers free access to live competition streams, exclusive interviews, behind-the-scenes features, and fan experiences and rewards.

In addition to video content, World Athletics+ provides live results coverage during major championships.

In terms of traditional broadcast coverage, World Athletics has secured several rights deals in recent months.

In May, BeIN Sports, the major international pay-TV broadcaster, announced an exclusive three-year deal to broadcast the flagship World Athletics Championships and other major competitions across the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region until 2027.

Meanwhile, in June, Australia’s commercial broadcaster, Nine Network, acquired rights to this year’s World Athletics Championships.

Media giant Warner Bros. Discovery also secured rights to the upcoming championships – taking place in Tokyo between September 13 and 21 - in 45 markets across Europe through an agreement with the European Broadcasting Union.

World Athletics’ international rights are sold by Japanese agency Dentsu as part of its 10-year agreement that ends in 2029. Under that deal, Dentsu distributes the governing body’s international sponsorship and licensing rights, as well as media rights outside Europe and sub-Saharan Africa.
