TNT Sports in as second Tour of Britain domestic broadcaster

Free-to-air commercial broadcaster ITV had already snapped up rights to the UK road cycling event.

UK pay-TV giant TNT Sports has been added as a domestic broadcaster for this year's men's edition of road cycling's Tour of Britain.

TNT Sports' linear channels will air the action between September 2 and 7, while the six-stage race will also be streamed live on the Discovery+ platform run by the Warner Bros. Discovery (WBD) owning company.

This deal comes in addition to the coverage of the tour already scheduled to appear on UK commercial free-to-air broadcaster ITV and on the ITVX streaming hub.

Scott Young, executive vice president at WBD Sports Europe, has said: "While our cycling coverage is global, we are passionate about telling local stories for the widest possible audience.

"That's why, as the home of cycling in the UK and Ireland, we're thrilled to partner with British Cycling to showcase the country's most prestigious road race on our channels and platforms."

The ITV deal - a renewal - was unveiled earlier this month. It marks the 13th consecutive edition of the event to be shown live by the broadcaster, and the 17th edition in a row to have been aired on the channel since 2008.

The women’s edition, which took place in June, was shown by the BBC public-service broadcaster.

Both races have been organized by British Cycling, the sport’s national governing body, since last year after it terminated a licensing deal with UK events company SweetSpot.

In May last year, UK bank Lloyds was named as the title sponsor for the Tour of Britain events as part of a major, long-term commercial partnership with British Cycling.
