NRK and TV2, two of Norway's public-service broadcasters, have snapped up two packages of rights covering the UEFA Women's Champions League (UWCL) clubs tournament for the next rights cycle.
Through 2029-30, NRK and TV2 will each show one game per round of the UWCL, with the deal covering five seasons.
In total, NRK will cover seven matches from each campaign, with TV2 set to show six. The channels will cover the various Norwegian teams set to compete, as well as games from the quarter-finals, semi-finals, and the final itself (to be aired by NRK).
The 2025-26 season will see both Brann and Valarenga from Norway compete in the UWCL, and, in addition, that prestigious fixture will take place in the Norwegian capital of Oslo, at Ullevaal Stadium.
This tie-up has been announced following a wider UWCL tie-up with the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) having been unveiled in May, entailing linear, digital, and radio coverage of the soccer competition for the next cycle.
The EBU-UEFA deal covers 24 territories, with that number - aside from Norway - also including the UK, Spain, France, Germany, the Netherlands, Portugal, and Sweden. In total, 26 EBU members will cover UWCL action - some members of that list are as follows:
AMPTV (Armenia), ORF (Austria), RTBF/VRT (Belgium), HRT (Croatia), ČT (Czechia), DR (Denmark), YLE (Finland), ZDF (Germany), MTVA (Hungary), RUV (Iceland), RTÉ (Ireland), PBS (Malta), NOS (Netherlands), NRK/TV 2 (Norway), RTP (Portugal), RTS (Serbia), STVR (Slovakia), RTVE (Spain), SRG SSR (Switzerland), TRT (Türkiye), and UA:PBC (Ukraine)
The EBU has formally unveiled the tie-up today, with Stefan-Eric Wildemann, the head of football, basketball, and digital acquisitions for EBU Sport, saying: "Free-to-air access remains one of the most powerful tools for growing the women’s game, and this deal ensures even more fans can follow the action as the competition enters an exciting new era.”
This comes the day after the final of the UEFA Women's European Championships, which EBU members also held rights to.
In addition to linear coverage, the Eurovision Sport over-the-top platform run by the EBU will also provide coverage, including "highlights on a weekly basis in selected territories."
Espen Olsen Langfeldt, NRK's sports editor, has specifically commented, meanwhile: "We have many Norwegian profiles in women's football who play for the biggest clubs in Europe, and we have Norwegian clubs that are also making a name for themselves internationally. With this agreement, all of Norway can follow them for several years, and the icing on the cake will be the final at Ullevaal Stadium next year."
The main body of UWCL rights through 2029-30, however, are now held by media giant Disney, with that heavyweight's Disney+ over-the-top streaming service set to cover all 75 UWCL fixtures each season across the continent.
The UWCL European media rights tender, opened in December 2024, was managed by agency Two Circles, which in June 2024 was appointed as the exclusive media sales agency and sponsorship agency for the UWCL during the 2025-2030 cycle.
Disney takes over from global sports OTT service DAZN, which has held the rights since the 2021-22 season.
The UWCL will change formats for the 2025-26 campaign, moving to a league phase with 18 sides, followed by a playoff round, increasing the number of games on offer.
The 2025-26 league phase begins on October 7.
