The National Hockey League (NHL) has renewed its regional partnership with Interwetten, the European online sports betting firm, in Austria and Germany.
Through the multi-year extension, Interwetten will continue as an official NHL partner and maintain brand visibility in the markets, primarily utilizing the league’s digitally enhanced dasherboards (DED) during the regular season, and for marquee NHL events and the Stanley Cup Playoffs.
The betting brand will also activate the sponsorship through fan engagement initiatives, providing customers with NHL experiences, including a chance to visit the league’s office in New York and attend games.
The NHL first partnered with Interwetten in 2022 and then renewed that deal in 2024.
NHL games are shown in Germany and Austria by pay-TV sports heavyweight Sky Deutschland, which recently renewed its agreement with the league in a multi-year extension. That deal also covers Luxembourg, Liechtenstein, and South Tyrol.
Sky has rights to broadcast over 300 NHL games per season through the new deal, including one live game per matchday through the regular season, as well as Europe-focused coverage of the NHL Saturday and NHL Sunday prime-time games.
Of particular interest to local viewers will be the fortunes of German forward Leon Draisaitl of the Edmonton Oilers franchise, winner of the 2024-25 NHL top scorer award, and one of seven Germans in the NHL, a list that also includes young Ottawa Senators prospect Tim Stützle and Detroit Red Wings defenceman Moritz Seider.
Austria, meanwhile, has two active NHL players, Marco Rossi of the Minnesota Wild and Marco Kasper of the Detroit Red Wings, both of whom were top 10 draft picks in 2020 and 2022, respectively.
