Mediaset España, the Spanish arm of the Italy-based broadcasting group, has secured a rights package for American football’s NFL that will see it broadcast several games free-to-air during the 2025 season, including the flagship Super Bowl.
The games include Sunday Night Football matches (13), as well as three playoff games (one per round), and the season-ending Super Bowl on February 8 at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California, which will be aired on FTA channel Cuatro.
The channel will also provide coverage of the upcoming NFL Madrid Game on November 6 between the Miami Dolphins and Washington Commanders at the Bernabeu Stadium, home of soccer giants Real Madrid – the league’s first regular-season game held in Spain.
Mediaset’s streaming platform Mediaset Infinity, meanwhile, will simulcast all games aired by Cuatro while also providing coverage of one additional game every Sunday, the three remaining games of the NFL’s International Series in Europe (two in London, one in Berlin), one Thanksgiving Day game, and three additional playoff games (one per round).
Mediaset’s coverage will start this weekend (October 12) with Cuatro and Mediaset Infinity airing its first Sunday Night Game between the Detroit Lions and Kansas City Chiefs at 2pm local time, while Mediaset Infinity’s coverage of the Denver Broncos clash against the New York Jets at Tottenham Stadium, London, will start at 3.30 pm.
Along with live matches, Mediaset said it will further enhance its coverage of the NFL with a wide range of digital content produced in partnership with its news outlet ElDesmarque, with Cuatro airing ElDesmarque Quaterback, a short-format show featuring highlights of the week, explanations of key rules and gameplay concepts, and a lookback at memorable moments and legendary players of the sport.
ElDesmarque’s website will also launch a dedicated NFL section featuring the main stories of the week, which will also be plugged across its social media platforms.
Bwin is acting as the official sponsor of the league’s coverage by Mediaset España and will gain brand presence across all late-night games on Cuatro, the Super Bowl, and ElDesmarque Quaterback.
Main NFL rights in the country are held by global sports streaming service DAZN, which signed a multi-year agreement in September, taking over from previous rightsholder pay-TV broadcaster Movistar.
That deal sees DAZN show five weekly regular-season matchups, including the NFL Madrid game, all playoff matches, and the Super Bowl. One FTA match is being offered each weekday to all users who register on DAZN’s app.
