The ongoing ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup in India has enjoyed a successful start, with early matches delivering record-breaking domestic viewership across digital and linear platforms.

Data released today by the International Cricket Council and Indian streaming service JioHotstar shows the first 13 matches of the tournament had already reached over 60 million domestic viewers, a five-fold increase over the 2022 edition in New Zealand.

The tournament, being jointly hosted by Indian and Sri Lanka, started on September 30 and will end with a final on November 2. The tournament is currently in its league stage and will continue until the knockout semi-final stage on October 29.

The JioHotstar service, a joint venture created through the merger of the Reliance Jio and Disney Star heavyweight Indian media conglomerates, holds streaming rights to the Women’s Cricket World Cup through a wider deal struck in August 2022, giving Hotstar and Star India all-encompassing International Cricket Council event media rights.

The India versus Pakistan game on October 5 is now the most-watched women’s international cricket match ever, having reached 28.4 million viewers, while India’s clash against Australia on October 12 saw 4.8 million peak concurrent viewers on JioHotstar.

In terms of linear viewership, league-stage games have delivered a viewership of 72 million, a 166% increase on the previous edition.

The ICC has credited the high viewership figures to the joint marketing effort between the ICC and JioStar, as well as the support of Indian cricket's BCCI governing body.

Live coverage of India’s matches is available in five languages - English, Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, and Kannada – across JioHotstar, Star Sports 1, Star Sports 2 Hindi, Star Sports 2 Tamil, Star Sports 2 Telugu, and Star Sports 2 Kannada. For the first time, an Indian sign language feed has also been provided.

Siddharth Sharma, JioStar’s head of viewership and monetization Initiatives – sports, said: “The incredible viewership for the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup India 2025 is a true testament to the growing interest in women’s sports in India.

“Fans are embracing women’s sports like never before, and at JioStar, we are proud that our platforms are where this movement is finding scale, driving the next era of inclusive sports entertainment.”
