AzamTV, the Tanzania-based pay-TV broadcaster, has snapped up rights in nine markets to soccer's upcoming men's Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

Through a deal unveiled earlier this week, AzamTV will cover the 24-team tournament across Tanzania, Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda, Burundi, Malawi, Botswana, Zambia, and Zimbabwe. All games will be shown live, and in high definition.

The rights have been secured through a deal between Azam and New World TV, the satellite network that acquired AFCON rights in 2023 (with that deal covering the early 2024 edition first). New World TV holds rights across sub-Saharan Africa, and is airing games in French, English, and Portuguese, as well as in local African languages.

The 2025 AFCON will take place in Morocco between December 21 and January 18, and four of the nine countries listed above have qualified - Tanzania, Zimbabwe, Zambia, and Uganda.

Azam viewers will be able to watch its AFCON coverage via the broadcaster's linear channels, through its online site, and also through the AzamTVMax over-the-top streaming platform.

Jacob Joseph, chief executive of Azam Media, has now said: "Football unites our continent, and AzamTV is proud to be the home of African football. We’re excited to bring the AFCON 2025 experience closer to fans, wherever they are.”

In terms of recent broadcast rights activity for the upcoming AFCON, earlier this month the Confederation of African Football (CAF), the regional soccer governing body, awarded African pay-TV heavyweight SuperSport a wide swathe of rights.

MultiChoice-owned SuperSport becomes the holder of both English and local-language rights across sub-Saharan Africa.

SuperSport will rebrand one of its channels specifically for the AFCON, which will feature live match coverage, expert analysis, top African football legends, and multilingual commentary.

AzamTV, meanwhile, also covered the various CAF continental club competitions during the 2024-25 season, through a deal dating back to last September.
