The New Zealand Rugby (NZR) governing body has appointed two new executives to its senior leadership team, but will continue with an interim CEO as its search goes on for a new chief.

The organization has today hired Chris Kinraid as chief financial officer and Chris Brown as chief commercial officer to bolster its executive body.

Most recently, Brown was the chief customer officer and chief marketing officer at McDonald’s Australia.

He has experience across several areas, including brand positioning, advertising, media, sponsorship, and digital programs.

Kinraid, meanwhile, was previously chief executive of New Zealand-based fashion company Hallenstein Glasson and prior to that the group chief financial officer at KMD Brands.

Brown and Kinraid will both join NZR’s executive team at the end of February.

NZR chair David Kirk said: “Both roles attracted high-quality candidates from New Zealand and offshore. After a thorough process, the board is confident these appointments strengthen the capability of our executive team to deliver a successful, growing and profitable organisation.”

Meanwhile, NZR has announced that Steve Lancaster will continue to serve as interim CEO “while the board progresses the CEO appointment process.”

Lancaster took on the role after previous CEO Mark Robinson stepped down at the end of 2025.

Kirk added: “Over the past year, NZR has consolidated under one CEO and executive team. Alongside a refreshed strategy, this has enabled the organisation to be more efficient, collaborative, and accountable. The requirements for the CEO role have evolved over this period, and the board is taking its time to make the right appointment.

“Steve is doing an excellent job leading NZR through a period of transition. His understanding of the game, from community to high performance, is highly valued. He has the board’s full support as he continues in the role.”
