The European Broadcasting Union (EBU), an alliance of public service broadcasters across Europe, has announced Pascal Fratellia will be leaving the organization after 17 years.

Fratellia currently serves as the director of Olympics at the EBU after being promoted to the newly created position in March 2023.

He was appointed to that role after the International Olympic Committee awarded exclusive 2026-32 Olympic Games media rights to the EBU and Warner Bros. Discovery, for which he was part of the negotiating team.

During his long stint with the EBU, Fratellia also held roles as head of football rights and director of commercial.

With over 25 years of experience in the sports rights sector, he has been credited with playing a central role in securing several key broadcast rights during his time as head of football, including for the FIFA World Cups in 2018 and 2022 on behalf of over 35 EBU members.

Glen Killane, executive director of sport at the EBU, said: “Pascal has been central to some of the most important contract negotiations we have conducted over the past 17 years, he is a highly experienced and professional colleague.

“On behalf of the team and our members, we thank him for his great contribution. We wish him every success in the next phase of his career.”

Fratellia added: “Working for the EBU and on behalf of our members has been an enormous privilege, I thank the members and the team for the great collaboration we have enjoyed over the years.”

Fratellia joined the EBU from the French Football Federation, where he was deputy director of the TV and marketing department.

He was also previously a UEFA Champions League soccer venue director for 12 seasons, as well as FIFA match commissioner for some matches.
