The McLaren Racing organization has announced a partnership extension with wireless technology and communications firm Cisco in a multi-year deal covering its Formula 1 (F1) and Electric Racing teams.

Under the renewal, Cisco will retain its position as an official partner of both teams, and McLaren will continue to use the company’s software for networking, wireless systems, and hybrid-work tools to support staff at the track and its technology center.

The renewal will see a shift towards artificial intelligence (AI) applications and data observability software, with McLaren Racing integrating its existing relationship with the Splunk observability platform, acquired by Cisco in 2024, into the new agreement to monitor systems and manage performance data.

Nick Martin, McLaren Racing’s co-chief commercial officer, said: “We are delighted to extend and evolve our partnership with Cisco. Their technology has become integral to how we work across the team, from the factory to the track.

“As we explore the opportunities AI presents, Cisco will continue to be a key collaborator in helping us stay connected, secure, and competitive.”

The partnership renewal builds on the pair’s original tie-up, struck in 2021, when Cisco was named the F1 team’s official collaboration partner. The agreement was then expanded in 2022 and 2024.

The extension comes as AI becomes a prominent feature within F1, with teams having to handle larger volumes of operational and commercial data. As the sport grows, AI’s role within teams will expand across decision-making, operations, and fan engagement.

For Cisco, the renewal continues its high-profile alliance with one of F1’s best-known brands, with McLaren dominating the 2025 F1 series by successfully defending their F1 Constructors’ Championship, while driver Lando Norris won the Drivers’ Championship.

The new elements will allow Cisco to boost its visibility within AI-related markets.

Susan Moran, Cisco’s president of Asia Pacific, Japan, and Greater China, said: “We are delighted to extend and evolve our partnership with Cisco.

“Their technology has become integral to how we work across the team, from the factory to the track. As we explore the opportunities AI presents, Cisco will continue to be a key collaborator in helping us stay connected, secure, and competitive.”

The renewal also adds to a growing list of technology partnerships in F1 as teams look for suppliers within cloud computing, data analysis, communications, and cybersecurity.
