The organizers of the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games have brought in LA-based law firm Gibson Dunn as a new commercial partner.

That law firm – founded in the Californian city – also becomes a sponsor of Team USA for the games in two years' time.

Gibson Dunn will provide its legal services and assistance to the games' organizing committee, as well as to Team USA.

Barbara Becker, Gibson Dunn's chair and managing partner, commented: "Serving Los Angeles and its communities has been part of Gibson Dunn since our founding here, and this is a special moment to see that commitment extend to a Games that will welcome the world – and benefit the city and the people who call it home.”

The Gibson Dunn Sports Industry Group currently represents and works for a range of sports properties, including teams, venues, associations, sponsors, broadcasters, and municipalities. It handles matters around transactions, regulation, governance, litigation, intellectual property, and commercial issues.

For the Paris 2024 Summer Olympics and Paralympics, PwC France served as the provider of legal services for that event, as part of an overall consulting services brief.

Elisabeth Frienberg, LA28's chief legal officer, added: "We are pleased to welcome Gibson Dunn as an official provider of the LA28 Games. The firm’s deep Los Angeles roots, industry reach, and multidisciplinary capabilities make it uniquely qualified to support the complex legal needs of an event of this scale.”

LA28 brought in Musco Lighting as a new commercial partner in mid-June, with that company becoming the sports presentation and broadcast lighting provider for both the Olympic and Paralympic Games, as well as for Team USA.

It will be responsible for the provision of all 'field-of-play' lighting at the games, as well as the lighting for other aspects of the Olympics and Paralympics, such as the post-event presentations.

In terms of other LA28 commercial activity over the last few months, late April saw the International Olympic Committee (IOC) unveil heavyweight international bank JPMorganChase as a new sponsor, in a deal that also covers LA28 and Team USA.

In March, meanwhile, the organizing committee brought in Ticketmaster and Sports Illustrated Tickets (SI Tickets) as the verified resale platforms for the games.
