SPOTV, the sports channel of Korean sports broadcasting company Eclat Media, has expanded its footprint in Southeast Asia by launching in Indonesia with two new distribution deals.

Eclat has agreed broadcast partnerships with MNC Vision Networks, the pay-TV operator, and telecoms firm Telkom Indonesia.

SPOTV will be available on multiple MNC Vision Networks platforms including MNC Vision and K-Vision as well as MNC Play (IPTV) and Vision+ (OTT).

Additionally, badminton’s BWF World Tour and major events – which Eclat recently secured exclusive rights to in a long-term agreement – will be on MNC’s free-to-air channels, MNCTV, and iNews.

With Telkom Indonesia, SPOTV will be carried on IndieHome’s UseeTV (IPTV) and Telkomsel’s MAXStream (OTT) platforms.

The SPOTV and SPOTV 2 channels officially launched in Indonesia on January 10 with MNC and Telkom Indonesia providing live coverage of the India Open that is part of the BWF World Tour Super 500.

Viewers in Indonesia will also have access to motorcycling’s MotoGP World Championships and World Superbike Championships, tennis’ Wimbledon and US Open grand slams, the Korean Baseball League, Korean Basketball League, and Japanese soccer’s V.League.

Lee Choong Khay, chief executive of SPOTV, said: “Our broadcasting partners in Indonesia are leaders in media and technology, delivering quality content to a captive local audience.

“We will continue to focus on localizing our content in key markets such as Indonesia and are confident that SPOTV and SPOTV2 will add tremendous value to both our partners and sports fans in Indonesia, and the rest of Asia.”

Eclat has already launched its SPOTV channels in Malaysia, Thailand, Singapore, the Philippines, Mongolia, Vietnam, Hong Kong, and Macau.

Distribution deals were agreed in Malaysia (Astro and Telkom Malaysia), Thailand (TrueVisions), Singapore (Singtel and StarHub), the Philippines (Sky Cable), Mongolia (Univision), and with Macau Cable TV in that territory.

Eclat moved its channels into Southeast Asia as a direct consequence of Fox Sports Asia, the regional sports broadcaster owned by the Disney corporation, shutting down its own 18 regional channels last year.

Fox Sports Asia held a wide range of premium rights in the region, including motor racing's prestigious Formula 1, before its shutdown.
