The Volleyball World commercial vehicle has today launched a global bidding process through which cities can apply to host Pool Phase and Finals events from the 2025-27 cycle of its Volleyball Nations League (VNL).

National federations, city authorities, federal governments, and/or organizing bodies, are now invited to submit expressions of interest in hosting events from that annual national teams’ competition by April 19.

The deadline for the official bids themselves is April 26, with “individual negotiations” set to run from then until May 10.

The final selection of host cities for the VNL between 2025 and 2027 is expected to be announced by August.

The VNL, launched in 2018 (as part of a joint project between volleyball’s FIVB governing body, various national federations, and heavyweight sports agency IMG), currently comprises both men’s and women’s editions, with 16 teams competing in each.

The format, as of 2022, entails a group stage where the 16 sides are assigned into two groups of eight, with four teams from each group then moving to the knockout stages (which start at a quarter-final round).

The 2025 season will see the number of teams involved expand to 18, for both the men's and women’s competitions.

The 2024 men’s VNL will see its final stage take place at the Atlas Arena in Łódz, Poland, between June 27 and 30.

The women’s competition, meanwhile, will come to a finale in Bangkok, Thailand, between June 20 and 23.

Volleyball World has claimed that across the 2023 VNL season, the league’s sponsorship value increased by 27%, and that its cumulative global audience rose by 48%.

Volleyball World was created as a joint venture between the FIVB volleyball global body and CVC Capital Partners, in early 2021, essentially becoming the sport’s commercial entity.
