The Amazon Prime Video streaming service has snapped up a package of English Premier League (EPL) soccer rights in the Netherlands, through a tie-up with Viaplay.

The Nordic broadcaster holds EPL rights in the Netherlands through a major deal – unveiled in July 2021 – running between 2022-23 and 2027-28. That tie-up, at the time, also covered Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, and Poland, with GlobalData Sport valuing the overall agreement at $11.8 million annually.

Now, Viaplay has sublicensed a package of games – up to 38 per season, one per matchday – to Prime Video, with media reports suggesting the deal runs for three campaigns. Specifically, the games beginning at 13:30 (Dutch time) are covered by this agreement, which will come at no extra cost to Prime Video subscribers in the Netherlands.

This represents the first step into significant live sports coverage in the Netherlands by Prime Video, which is available in that market for around €5 ($5.75) per month.

It also adds to the broadcaster's Premier League coverage in Sweden and Denmark, struck through a similar Viaplay sublicensing deal early last year, which also covers 38 earlier Saturday games per season.

Current Dutch players contracted to Premier League sides include Virgil van Dijk, Cody Gakpo, Ryan Gravenberch, and Jeremie Frimpong at champions Liverpool, Matthijs de Ligt at Manchester United, Nathan Ake at Manchester City, and Arsenal's Jurriën Timber.

In terms of recent Premier League broadcast deals, meanwhile, earlier this week it was confirmed that international pay-TV sports heavyweight BeIN Media Group has extended its exclusive broadcast partnership with the league in 24 territories across the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region.

The multi-year extension will run through the 2027-28 campaign, with the media company’s BeIN Sports slate of channels to showcase all 380 Premier League games each season, with streaming coverage to come via its TOD streaming service.

Domestically, 2025-26 is the first season of a new cycle, with pay-TV heavyweights Sky Sports and TNT Sports providing live coverage. Prime Video held a package of domestic rights in the UK for the last rights cycle, but that agreement was not extended..
