Amul, the Indian dairy conglomerate, has unveiled sponsorship agreements covering the US (co-hosts) and South African cricket teams at the upcoming ICC Men's T20 World Cup.
Both USA Cricket and Cricket South Africa (CSA) announced their respective deals yesterday, with Amul in as the lead arm sponsor for both teams during that event, which is set to run from June 1 to 29.
The US team will play the first match of the tournament, against Canada in Dallas, Texas, while South Africa’s first fixture takes place on June 3 against Sri Lanka.
Amul has been involved in cricket sponsorship since 2011 when it struck a deal covering the Netherlands national team. The brand is also a commercial partner of the Women's Premier League domestic competition in India.
The milk brand has been a partner of CSA at various points since 2019, including for the men’s Cricket World Cup in India late last year.
It has also previously partnered with the Afghanistan team.
Outside of cricket, meanwhile, Amul was a partner of Portugal's national team at the 2022 FIFA World Cup soccer tournament.
Pholetsi Moseki, chief executive at CSA, added: “We’re excited to announce our ongoing partnership with Amul for the upcoming T20 World Cup. Amul has been a steadfast brand that has shown us immense support since their initial collaboration with the South African team in 2019.”
The US has never appeared at an ICC T20 event before, making their debut this year as co-hosts alongside the West Indies.
South Africa, meanwhile, is considered to be one of the favorites for the 20-team tournament.
