Australian commercial broadcaster Seven has snapped up rights in that market to the upcoming 2025 Esports World Cup (EWC).

Through a deal unveiled earlier today, the network will cover "the most popular games in the tournament" live and free on its 7plus Sport streaming service from July 10 onwards.

The tournament, held in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, runs between July 7 and August 24, with this year's edition being its second in this current format.

Seven's coverage, aside from live action, will also include the EWC opening ceremony, while the broadcaster will additionally produce a two-hour live show called EWS Spotlight, featuring the finals of each separate event, held across Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, each week.

Asia-based teams competing at the event include Gen G, Talon, and Team Secret.

Gereurd Roberts, chief digital officer at Seven West Media, said: "As the fastest-growing sport worldwide, esports is capturing the imagination of millions, and the EWC is its ultimate stage."

The total prize fund attached to the upcoming EWC is $70 million, with over 2,000 players competing.

Seven's last significant rights deal unveiling, meanwhile, came earlier this month when an exclusive agreement was announced covering the US' Major League Cricket Twenty20 competition (this year, running between June 12 and July 13).

Seven is currently airing all 34 matches from the competition live via 7Plus Sport, with the final next month on the network’s linear channel 7mate.
