SailGP enters sports betting in earnest with Smarkets predictions deal

Smarkets will sponsor the sailing series across the UK, Ireland, and Sweden, through 2028.

International racing series SailGP has expanded its presence in the sports betting landscape, partnering with predictions wagering firm Smarkets.

As the official sports trading partner of the series, Smarkets gains betting integration rights in the UK, Ireland, and Sweden.

This partnership, which will begin immediately and run for three seasons, will also see Smarkets serve as an official partner of the Great Britain SailGP team, known as Emirates Great Britain.

The pair will activate both in-person around SailGP events, most likely the annual Emirates Great Britain Sail Grand Prix in Portsmouth, England, and via their respective social media and digital channels.

Speaking on the deal, Smarkets founder and chief executive Jasson Trost said: “SailGP is a data-rich, high-performance sport, and that’s exactly where exchange betting thrives. At Smarkets, prices are driven by real-time information and competition between participants, not bookmaker margins. This partnership brings a sharper, more transparent way to bet to fans across the UK, Ireland, and Sweden.”

This is the first time that SailGP has partnered with a betting company, although the series did first enter sports betting as a sector in June 2025, offering odds and markets around its New York Sail Grand Prix.

Andrew Thompson, managing director at SailGP, added: “SailGP is built on speed, precision, and data - and the nature of the racing with multiple short-course races rates compelling, highly-competitive action every time our teams take to the water with multiple different Grand Prix winners over a season.

“By working with Smarkets, we’re able to use the sophisticated real-time data behind SailGP to unlock new ways for fans to engage with the competition, while continuing to grow the championship around the world.”

The 2026 SailGP campaign began on January 17 with the Oracle Perth Sail Grand Prix in Australia, and continued with the New Zealand Grand Prix on February 14 and 15.

This edition will run through the grand final in Abu Dhabi, UAE, on November 28 and 29.

SailGP has recently unveiled extended broadcast deals in Brazil with major commercial broadcaster Globo and pay-TV cable service BandSports.
