Movistar Plus, the Spanish pay-TV broadcaster owned by Telefonica, has extended its domestic rights deal covering the country's Super Cup men's soccer tournament.

Through a tie-up unveiled late last week by the RFEF, Spanish soccer's national federation, Movistar will continue as the four-team competition's exclusive broadcaster for the next three seasons - 2025-26, 2026-27, and 2027-28. The four teams are now made up of the top two sides from LaLiga, in addition to the two finalists from the Copa del Rey domestic knockout cup competition.

The RFEF sold the rights for the 2022-23 to 2024-25 cycle by bundling them with a package of Copa del Rey rights. These were then purchased by Movistar Plus, with that deal unveiled in late 2022.

In recent cycles, the national body has set a high asking price for the Super Cup, which is now contested by four sides instead of just two as was the case previously, over three matches in Saudi Arabia.

The tender for domestic rights was launched by the RFEF in late May, (alongside rights to the Spanish men's third division), with only one package available.

It was reported at that time that the RFEF was seeking an average of €6.5 million ($7.3 million) per season for these rights.

The RFEF, in confirming Movistar as the competition's broadcast partner, said: "Year after year, viewership for this competition has broken previous records, making the final one of the most-watched matches on the platform."

The 2024-25 Super Cup was won by heavyweights Barcelona, who beat fierce rivals Real Madrid 5-2 in the mini-competition's final in Saudi Arabia.

In January, it was revealed that the RFEF has been in talks to continue staging the Supercopa de España competition in Saudi Arabia until 2034.

The current agreement between the Kingdom and the RFEF is not due to expire until 2029, but the two parties are keen to agree a five-year extension. The Super Cup was moved to Saudi Arabia in 2020, in a deal reportedly worth more than €40 million ($41 million) per year.

Five of the last six editions of the competition have been staged in the Kingdom, with the exception of 2021 (due to the Covid-19 pandemic) when it was held in Spain.

In terms of the primary other Spanish men's soccer competitions, during the upcoming 2025-26 campaign, men's LaLiga action will be shown live by a combination of DAZN and Movistar.
