The cities of Helsinki (Finland) and Riga (Latvia) have won the rights to host the 2030 Ice Hockey Men's World Championship.

That event will take place between May 17 and June 2, in four years' time, with the joint bid from the two cities having been approved almost unanimously by the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) late last week at its 2026 annual congress.

Finland is set to stage the men's World Championships for the 11th time - having last done so in 2022 - and Latvia for the fourth (it last staged action from the top-tier event in 2023).

Specific stadia for the championships are yet to be publicly announced, although the expectation is that Helsinki will stage both semi-finals, the third-place playoff fixture, and the final itself.

This announcement has come with the 2026 World Championship having just concluded - that event was held in Zurich, Switzerland, with the final having taken place at the Swiss Life Arena yesterday.

Meanwhile, rights to host the 2028 Women's World Championship have been awarded to Switzerland, with a specific host city to be allocated in the future.

In terms of future IIHF Men's World Championship hosts, next year will see that event take place across the German cities of Düsseldorf and Mannheim, before it is held in France (specifically, in Paris and Lyon) in 2028.

For the following year, rights have been assigned to Bratislava and Kosice in Slovakia.
