MagentaTV, the over-the-top (OTT) German platform owned by telecoms giant Deutsche Telekom, has become a major golf broadcaster in that market.

Through a deal until the end of 2029 that was unveiled today, MagentaTV becomes the exclusive broadcast partner in Germany for US golf's PGA Tour, the DP World Tour based in Europe, and for the iconic Ryder Cup men's teams competition (two editions of that event will be covered by this agreement).

The four-year deal includes coverage of 300 days of live golf annually, with 131 tournaments to be aired next year. Of these, 76 will be from the PGA and DP World tours (live content from the Korn Ferry Tour and the PGA Champions Tour will also be included), with the tie-up beginning on January 15 next year.

This will be available to all MagentaTV customers at no extra cost, through two new channels, with customers of the MagentaSport package also able to access all content for no additional charge.

These rights had previously been held in Germany by pay-TV's Sky Deutschland.

MS Golf 1 and MS Golf 2 will both be added to MagentaTV in January, with the channels also set to include shoulder content, historical features, and more.

For non-subscribers, select events will also be made available via the MagentaTV Freemium service.

The two Ryder Cups to take place during the deal will take place in 2027 (Adare Manor, Ireland), and 2029 (Hazeltine National Golf Club, Minnesota).

Arnim Butzen, Telekom's head of TV, has said: "With this package, we are offering Germany's most comprehensive live golf coverage ever. From the first flights to the final, we will show every tournament like never before – live, informative, and presented in a modern style. The package is aimed at experienced golf fans as well as young viewers who are discovering the sport."

MS Golf 1 will cover all tournaments from start to finish, while MS Golf 2 will provide additional feeds, "such as following individual groups of players throughout their rounds or highlighting standout moments."

From a German point of view, the Austrian Alpine Open will take place in late May next year, with the BMW International Open near Munich then running between July 2 and 5.

Next year, MagentaTV will cover 44 PGA Tour events and 32 from the DP World Tour.
