Mediaset España, the Spanish arm of the Italy-based broadcasting group, has secured two sub-licensing deals that will see it broadcast domestic races from motor racing’s top-tier Formula 1 and MotoGP series free-to-air.

Through an agreement with global sports streaming giant DAZN, rightsholder of F1 in the country, Mediaset will air the two Spanish rounds of the series – the Spanish Grand Prix (GP) in Barcelona (June 12 to 14) and the inaugural Madrid GP (September 11 to 13).

Mediaset has aired the last six editions of the Spanish GP via sublicensing deals with Movistar Plus, the pay-television broadcaster owned by telecoms giant Telefonica, which held F1 rights from 2020 to 2023, and DAZN since it took over the rights in a deal covering the 2024 to 2026 seasons.

Meanwhile, an agreement with MotoGP Sports and Entertainment Group, commercial rights holder of the elite motorcycling series, and DAZN will see Mediaset given rights to air the Spanish GP in Jerez (June 12 to 14), the Catalan GP (May 15 to 17), and the Valencian Community GP (November 20 to 22).

DAZN has provided exclusive MotoGP coverage in Spain since the platform launched in March 2019, most recently renewing in October 2022 in a deal running until 2027.

Mediaset takes over the FTA rights from Spanish broadcaster Atresmedia TV, which had a sub-licensing deal in place with DAZN to show the three home races in 2024 and 2025.

The deal comes as F1 prepares to stage its second GP of the 2026 season, the Chinese GP in Shanghai, having held its season-opening race in Australia last weekend.

The Australian GP drew strong viewership both domestically and in other global markets, with a record 483,934 fans also attending the Albert Park venue across the full four-day race weekend.
