Last Supercars season before new deal sees big audiences for Foxtel, Seven

The campaign was the most-streamed Supercars season ever for Foxtel's main streaming service Kayo Sports.

The 2025 edition of Australian motor racing's Supercars series brought in significant viewing numbers for its domestic rights partners.

Pay-TV heavyweight Foxtel Group and commercial broadcaster Seven Network hold live Supercars rights, and both trumpeted high audience figures for 2025.

The campaign, which culminated with the Grand Final in Adelaide over the weekend, was the most-streamed Supercars season ever for Foxtel's main streaming service Kayo Sports, while the free-to-air coverage on Seven reached over 8.7 million in total.

These numbers have come out with Foxtel and Seven having both retained their domestic Supercars rights, through multi-year deals unveiled in early September.

The 13-round, 34-race 2025 championship was streamed for 290 million minutes on Kayo Sports, up 42% year-on-year from the 2024 season.

Across all Foxtel platforms, meanwhile - including its linear channel, as well as Kayo Sports, Foxtel Go, and Foxtel Now - it represents the most-watched Supercars season in six years, since 2019. Year-on-year, audience figures were up 30%.

The 2025 edition of the iconic Bathurst 1000 event became the most-streamed Supercard event ever on Kayo Sports, while the AirTouch 500 and the Adelaide Grand Final were also watched by significant numbers.

Adam Howarth, executive director for commercial, sport, at Foxtel Group, has commented: "We’ve loved bringing every heart-stopping moment of the 2025 Supercars season to audiences. Playing an important role in the sport’s growing momentum and passionate fandom is something we’re immensely proud of."

For Seven, meanwhile, the Grand Final achieved the highest rating for that race weekend since 2021, reaching 2.37 million (up 31% year-on-year).

The average total TV audience for the race itself was almost 500,000 (498,000), up 17% year-on-year.

On average, each of the 13 Supercars race weekends this year had an average total TV audience of 411,400, also the largest such number since 2021.

On the 7plus Sport streaming service, meanwhile, numbers across the whole campaign were up 111% year-on-year, with the Grand Final audience figures up 138% from 2024.

Seven also brought in strong viewing numbers for the Bathurst 1000, the Gold Coast 500, and the Sydney 500.

The head of motorsport at Seven, Angela Rampal, added: “This year’s Bathurst 1000 was the biggest viewing audience on Seven since 2016, and the momentum has continued through the exciting new Finals format, with huge numbers watching the Gold Coast 500 and the season’s Grand Final in Adelaide.

"The increase in viewer numbers this year is credit to a fantastic collaboration with the Supercars production team, and the incredibly talented commentators and reporters who work on our coverage. The stage is set for an even bigger and better 2026, and we couldn’t be more excited.”

In terms of other recent Supercars broadcast rights activity, early August saw Sky NZ extend its rights deal for the next four seasons.

Next year, the series will add a second New Zealand race to its schedule, in the southern city of Christchurch.
