Gilbert, the rugby equipment brand and prominent ball supplier, has extended its long-term partnership with the World Rugby governing body until 2033.

Under the agreement, the brand will remain the official ball supplier for all World Rugby 15s competitions and Rugby World Cups.

Gilbert match balls will continue to be used for the men’s and women’s tournaments in Australia (2027 & 2029) and the USA (2031 & 2033).

The company will also supply balls for all major World Rugby competitions, including the Pacific Nations Cup, WXV Global Series, World Rugby U20 Championship, and regional tournaments.

Gilbert, which is nearly 200 years old, has been the official ball supplier of the World Cup since the second edition of the competition in 1995.

The renewed deal was announced as the official match ball design was unveiled for the 2027 World Cup.

The match ball will feature Smart Ball technology to “enhance player performance and deliver unique insights for fans.”

Michel Poussau, World Rugby chief revenue officer, said: “World Rugby is proud to continue its trusted partnership with Gilbert, ensuring that the official match balls for all our 15s competitions, including the prestigious Rugby World Cups, are of the highest quality through to 2033.”

Richard Gray, Gilbert Rugby Commercial CEO, added: “We are delighted to be renewing our long and successful relationship with World Rugby and Rugby World Cup. This represents a ringing endorsement of the Gilbert brand and product and the wider brand strength and service we offer to the world’s best competitions and players.”

Gilbert has a long-standing presence in rugby and served as the ball supplier for the British & Irish Lions’ tour to Australia earlier this year.
