French energy company EDF has become the first founding partner for the organizing committee behind the 2030 Winter Olympic Games, set to take place on home soil.

The group aims to help local authorities in the regions where the games are going to be held in a number of ways, including through "improving the energy performance of sports, tourism, and Olympic village infrastructure."

EDF will also work on providing "competitive, sovereign, low-carbon electricity" to the remote, mountainous regions in the Alps, where the majority of the games will be held.

EDF will also act as a partner of the 2030 Winter Paralympics, set to take place following the conclusion of the Olympics.

Late June saw the Netherlands unveiled as a 2030 Winter Olympics host alongside France's Alpine regions, after striking a staging agreement for speed skating action.

A cluster of ice-based events will also be held in the city of Lyon, capital of the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region, which sits at the base of the mountain range, it was confirmed last month.

This will include curling, figure skating, ice hockey, and short track speed skating.

In terms of EDF's other significant sports sponsorships, it also has a deal with the French soccer federation.
