Brazil-based YouTube channel Canal Goat has acquired rights to South American soccer’s major club competitions in 55 countries through a deal with the Conmebol governing body.

As part of the agreement, the platform will show the elite Copa Libertadores, secondary Copa Sudamericana, and Recopa Sudamericana matches across Europe, Asia, Africa, and Oceania.

The tie-up includes major markets such as the United Kingdom, Japan, Ireland, France, and Belgium. Canal Goat will provide coverage in Portuguese.

All matches will be broadcast through Canal Goat’s official YouTube channel.

The platform’s coverage debuted yesterday with the first leg of this season's Recopa (contested annually by the previous year’s Copa Libertadores and Copa Sudamericana winners), between Argentina’s Lanus and Brazilian giants Flamengo.

Lanus will take a 1-0 lead into the second leg in Brazil on February 27.

Both the Copa Libertadores and Copa Sudamericana are in the qualifying phase; the group stage of both competitions will begin in March.

The list of countries in Canal Goat’s deal additionally includes: Vietnam, Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Cambodia, Laos, Maldives, Mongolia, Myanmar, Nepal, North Korea, Pakistan, Philippines, South Korea, Sri Lanka, Thailand, East Timor, Malaysia, Brunei, Armenia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, India, Andorra, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Albania, Hungary, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Malta, Romania, San Marino, Belarus, Moldova, Fiji, Kiribati, Marshall Islands, Micronesia, Nauru, Palau, Papua New Guinea, Samoa, Solomon Islands, Tonga and Tuvalu.

Conmebol claims that Copa Libertadores, Copa Sudamericana, and Recopa Sudamericana matches will now be shown in a total of 194 countries globally.

In 2023, Canal Goat, which launched that year, picked up rights to show the latter stages of the Copa Libertadores and Copa Sudamericana in the UK, Ireland, and Japan.

The platform has since been strategically building out its rights portfolio in recent years, with a particular focus on soccer.

It already broadcasts Brazil's state championships internationally and recently renewed its deal to show Germany’s top-flight Bundesliga in Brazil.

Canal Goat's rights stable since launching has also featured the Saudi Pro League, Brazil’s third-tier Série C do Brasileirão, the Copa Argentina domestic cup competition, and the Campeonato Brasileiro de Futebol Americano American football league.
