British Cycling, the sport’s national governing body, has named Lee Gibbons as its interim chief executive as incumbent Jon Dutton prepares to move on from the post.

Gibbons, who has been a British Cycling board member since December 2023, will step into the role on July 13.

British Cycling said recruitment for a permanent CEO is in its final stages, and Gibbons will sit in the interim role until the chosen candidate can join the organisation.

The new chair of the British Cycling board will also be announced soon.

Earlier this year, Dutton was appointed as chief executive of the British Olympic Association and will officially take up the position next month.

He has served as CEO of British Cycling since 2023, taking over from Brian Facer, who departed in October 2022 after less than two years in the role.

During Dutton’s short tenure, he led the organization through the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris, where Team GB riders returned a total of 11 medals.

Gibbons has experience from the sports agency sector, other sports rights holders, and commercial brands, including nine years at sportswear giant Adidas, where he ran the sports marketing division.

In late 2025, British Cycling launched a new commercial arm - British Cycling Ventures (BCV) - and outlined plans to bring in private equity investment, a process that the new CEO will be involved in.
