Mediacorp, Singtel, and StarHub will all cover the action from soccer’s upcoming 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Singapore, it has been announced.

Under new rights agreements, customers of the Mediapro-owned Mewatch, Singtel TV, and StarHub TV platforms will be able to watch the tournament at no extra cost, with all 64 matches from the 32-team event available both live and on demand.

This year's edition of the tournament will take place in Australia and New Zealand (relatively favorable time zones for a Singapore audience) between July 20 and August 20.

All matches will be available on the StarHub TV+ and IPTV platforms, as well as on Singtel TV GO, and the digital streaming service Mewatch.

In terms of free-to-air coverage of the Women’s World Cup, the opening fixture – New Zealand versus Norway – will be live on Mediacorp’s free Channel 5, which will also show a delayed telecast of the tournament final.

In addition to live coverage of the tournament, viewers can access pre-event content including team profiles and player interviews from today. There will also be match replays and daily highlights available from the start of the Women’s World Cup.

While the Singapore national team has not qualified, Asian representation comes from South Korea, Japan, the Philippines, and Vietnam.

The initial tie-ups between the three Singaporean broadcasters and soccer’s global governing body FIFA came in February.

Angeline Poh, Mediacorp’s chief customer and corporate development officer, said: “We are delighted to partner with Singtel and StarHub once again to deliver more scintillating soccer action to audiences in Singapore.

“We trust that fans will enjoy the convenience of catching the pinnacle event of women’s soccer on Mewatch, which will offer all 64 matches live and on-demand, as well as curated highlights on a dedicated channel – all on their preferred devices.”

Diana Chen, Singtel Singapore’s managing director for customer value, added: “The FIFA Women’s World Cup, despite its relatively short history, has been gaining momentum and growing in popularity. Today, it stands as a major event on the global sports calendar and we are exhilarated to partner with Mediacorp and StarHub to bring this historic tournament to our viewers.”

The three broadcasters also combined to cover the men’s 2022 FIFA World Cup in the same way.

For the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup, meanwhile, BeIN Sports Asia broadcast the action in Singapore.

The last major media rights deal for live 2023 WWC action came in late June, with Portugal’s Sport TV pay-TV service snapping up rights.
