The ACB, the organizer of Spanish basketball’s top-tier league, has announced the Catalan city of Badalona as host for the 2026 Endesa Super Cup.

The four-team mini-tournament, which acts as the curtain raiser for the 2026-27 Liga Endesa season, will be played at the city’s 12,000-seat Palau Municipal d’Esports venue between September 19 and 20.

Three of the four participating teams for the 2026 edition have already been announced, including Valencia Basket, champions of last year’s Super Cup, Kosner Baskonia, champions of the King’s Cup competition, and Asisa Joventut, joining as the host team.

The final place will go to the 2025-26 Liga Endesa champion, which will be decided after the end of the playoffs, which begin on June 2. If the champion is one of the teams already confirmed, the spot will go to the next highest-ranked team at the end of the playoffs.

The hosting rights deal comes shortly after Badalona staged the FIBA Basketball Champions League Final Four tournament earlier this month, from May 7 to 9, while previously hosting the 2023 Copa del Rey domestic basketball tournament.

Badalona mayor Xavier Garcia Albiol said: “Just a few days ago, we hosted the Basketball Champions League Final Four with great success in terms of both attendance and organization, and now we are very excited about hosting the 2026 Endesa Super Cup, which we are convinced will be a major event for both the city and the fans, and a new opportunity to further solidify Badalona as one of the leading basketball capitals in Spain and Europe.”

Meanwhile, Euroleague Basketball, the organizer of the sport’s top European club competitions, is reportedly looking at alternative hosts for its 2027 Final Four tournament due to uncertainty around Abu Dhabi’s ability to stage the flagship event.

Citing TV3 sports commentator Jonas Leksas, news outlet Basket New said Euroleague Basketball had shortlisted Kaunas (Lithuania), Valencia (Spain), and Belgrade (Serbia) as potential replacement hosts if the ongoing unrest in the Middle East continues through next year.

Kaunas hosted the 2023 Final Four, while Belgrade staged the 2022 edition. Valencia, meanwhile, is looking to secure its first Final Four event.

The reports come days after Euroleague chief executive Chus Bueno said the 2027 edition could be moved from Abu Dhabi if the region’s instability continues.

At a press conference ahead of the 2026 Final Four, Bueno said: “As you might know, we have an existing agreement with Abu Dhabi for the next year. Of course, until the situation in the Middle East is solved, we're not going.

“It can be solved, hopefully, if it gets resolved and everything is OK, it's safe, same with Israel.

“We have a contract; we will be happy to come back. But we have this issue [with the ongoing conflict]. And we have to give ourselves some time to decide. Of course, we are exploring other options, Plan B, and we have a couple of ideas and conversations regarding Plan B. But I think that we still have to wait a little bit more and see what happens.”

Bueno added the organization would wait several months before making any decisions, adding: “In a couple of months, we really have to sit down and see what we're doing, because we need to plan, and there's a lot to do. For now, it's just conversations. So I don't have a Plan B ready to be executed.”

This year’s Final Four weekend was staged at Telekom Center in Athens, Greece, on May 22 and 24. Home team Olympiakos beat Spain’s Real Madrid to claim the Euroleague title.
