Padel's Hexagon Cup, the team competition backed by a range of global sporting stars, is set to turn into a whole worldwide circuit of events.

Up until this point, the Hexagon Cup – which held its first edition in early 2024 – has been a short single tournament taking place each year in Madrid, Spain, but that will now change, thanks to a partnership struck by the event's organizers with the International Padel Federation (FIP) governing body, and with worldwide sports and entertainment agency 54.

54, involved in the creation of the controversial and lucrative LIV Golf rebel series a few years ago, will invest in and partner with Hexagon Cup to launch the Hexagon World Series.

This will become the first team padel series to be launched under the FIP's governance, and will be integrated into the body's calendar.

It will take place alongside the existing Premier Padel circuit (played by pairs, not teams), and will add "multiple events per year across new international locations," the FIP has said.

This expansion announcement comes as an investment round into Hexagon Cup closes – the round involved not only 54, but also companies such as UK-based Padel Hub and US-centric Epic Padel, as well as the athlete-based Players Fund platform.

Details around the new series will be unveiled next year, according to padel's governing body.

The sport's authorities are currently attempting to boost padel's chances of being included in the Olympic program, and will hope that this addition of a top-tier teams-based series is a step towards doing that.

Enrique Buenaventura, founder of the Hexagon Cup, has said: "This partnership marks a new chapter in the history of padel.

"Together with 54, FIP, and the support of, and fantastic relationship with, Premier Padel, we will build the first truly global team circuit, expanding the vision of the Hexagon Cup and creating something never seen before in our sport.”

The third edition of the Hexagon Cup will take place in Madrid between January 28 and February 1, with teams co-owned by sporting stars such as Murray, Nadal, soccer's Sergio Aguero, and Formula 1 motor racing driver Pierre Gasly.

Last week, international insurance heavyweight Generali Group struck a deal to become the main commercial partner of that competition.

Gary Davidson, 54's group chief operating officer, added: "Teaming up with Hexagon Cup and FIP to create the Hexagon World Series is a natural extension of our commitment to building the world’s most exciting sporting properties, molded through modern commercial structures and integrated into the existing ecosystem to deliver the best experiences for athletes and fans, and the best performance for partners and investors.”
