US golf's PGA Tour has added a new sponsor for its biennial Presidents Cup team tournament, with accounting and consultancy firm Forvis Mazars stepping in as a global partner for this year's edition.

The firm will establish a prominent branding presence and activate across the event, which will be held at the iconic Medinah Country Club in Illinois from September 22 through 27.

Forvis Mazars becomes one of three Global partners of the event, the others being asset management firm Barings and long-term PGA Tour sponsor Rolex.

The event pits a team of US stars against a team of international golfers from around the world (excluding Europe) in a similar fashion to the Ryder Cup.

Medinah will be the fifth different venue in the US to host the event, which will join an illustrious list of tournaments hosted at the course, including the 2019 BMW Championship, 2012 Ryder Cup, two PGA Championships, and three US Opens.

The last Presidents Cup was staged at The Royal Montreal Golf Club in September 2024 – its first return to Canada since 2007.

Future hosts of the event include Melbourne, Australia, which will stage the tournament in 2028 and 2040, as well as St. Louis, Missouri, which holds the rights to the 2030 edition.

Elsewhere in the world of golf, the DP World Tour has struck an accord with the England Golf body with the aim of resurrecting the English Open tournament.

The English Open was an annual event on the tour, formerly known as the European Tour, from 1979 through 2002, though there were a pair of short-lived attempts to bring back the tournament (2009, 2021-22).

With this new agreement, the English Open will return in 2027 on the Challenge Tour (known as the HotelPlanner Tour for sponsorship reasons), the DP World Tour’s second-tier competition, before a planned return to the DP World Tour proper in 2028.

Speaking on the deal, England Golf group chief executive Jeremy Tomlinson commented: “All of us at England Golf are excited to be entering into this new partnership with the DP World Tour to promote and deliver the English Open. Our player development pathway has a proud heritage of producing some of the finest golfers in the world, and we are committed to maintaining that record.

“By reinstating the English Open and partnering with the DP World Tour and the HotelPlanner Tour, many of our young squad players will have the opportunity to not only experience professional tournament golf, but also begin to acclimatise to life in the professional ranks.

“With clear ambitions to elevate the English Open back onto the main tour, this will provide another inspiring national platform to showcase everything that is great about our game in England.”

The 2027 edition will be held at the Vale Golf Club in Worcestershire from June 18 to 21.

Prominent former winners of the English Open include Colin Montgomerie (1994), Lee Westwood (1998), Ian Woosnam (1994), three-time winner Darren Clarke (1999-2000, 2002), and golf icon Seve Ballesteros, who won the first edition on the European Tour back in 1979.
