North American ice hockey’s NHL has today announced a digital partnership with Deltatre, the video streaming technology firm.

The league has appointed Deltatre to power the NHL.com website through its publishing platform, FORGE.

Ahead of the ongoing 2023-24 NHL regular season, Deltatre overhauled NHL.com with a “complete technical re-architecture and visual redesign,” which includes websites for all 32 NHL teams.

Deltatre’s FORGE platform is used by a total of 370 website editors and contributors across the NHL and supports eight languages offering access to player and team news and information.

The publishing platform allows the NHL to manage its entire digital ecosystem from one place, giving editors the ability to write and publish stories from any location for all devices.

Andrea Marini, Deltatre chief executive, said: “We’re happy to add NHL as the fourth major sports league in North America to trust Deltatre with its digital platforms, alongside the NFL, MLB, and MLS.

“Partnering with the NHL to help overhaul its digital experience is another huge landmark in our North American journey.”

Nili Doft, NHL senior vice president of digital media, added: “We’re excited for users to enjoy NHL.com’s cleaner visual design and mobile-first platform, made possible through our collaboration with Deltatre.

“Our fans are very tech savvy, and it’s important that we deliver a high-quality experience across our digital platforms.”

Deltatre recently extended its digital tie-up with Italian soccer giants Juventus.

Through the renewed deal, which first began in 2020, Deltatre will continue to work across the Serie A club’s digital ecosystem, providing the technology behind the team’s website and app.

Meanwhile, the NHL has today also extended its partnership with BetMGM, the sports betting joint venture between MGM Resorts International and gambling firm Entain.

Under the multi-year renewal, the firm will continue as an official sports betting and gaming partner of the league in North America.

As part of the deal, BetMGM will receive “significant” branding within nationally televised broadcasts in the US. Its signage will extend across the NHL’s regular season and Stanley Cup playoffs, with inventory to also include digitally enhanced dasherboards, the league’s virtual advertising solution.

BetMGM will also continue to collaborate with the NHL to create specialized VIP fan experiences and utilize NHL imagery to design team and league-branded casino games.

The company became the NHL’s first-ever official sports betting partner in 2018.

BetMGM is also a partner of several NHL franchises including the Vegas Golden Knights, New York Rangers, and Nashville Predators.
