Macron, the Italian sportswear brand, has signed a four-year kit deal with the Italian Basketball Federation (FIP) governing body to supply the national basketball teams during international tournaments and fixtures.

The deal, which starts next month, will see Marcon supply technical apparel covering all Italy’s national basketball teams including senior, junior, 3×3, male, and female.

As part of the deal, starting from the 2023-24 season, all referees involved in national competitions will wear Macron technical clothing.

The sportswear brand will also launch a range of merchandise, which will be available across its stores and in the FIP-dedicated space on Macron’s website and the website fip.it.

Macron takes over from US sports equipment manufacturer Spalding, which has been the Italian national teams’ kit supplier since 2017.

The deal was brokered by Milan-based consultancy firm Master Group Sport, which is the commercial advisor to the FIP as part of a partnership struck in 2018.

Gianluca Pavanello, chief executive of Macron, said: “As an Italian company, we are extremely proud to provide technical support for the national team. For us, being a partner means contributing to a project in which our team wear plays a key role. Partnership demands an all-round commitment."

FIP president Giovanni Petrucci said: “The next four years will bring many tough challenges. Italian national teams will be playing in major competitions like the World and European Championships and striving for continuous improvement and qualification for the next Olympics.

“Off the court too, the FIP is committed to developing and promoting the sport of basketball in Italy. It’s a source of great satisfaction for me to have a company like Macron working alongside us."

This latest deal adds to Macron’s growing portfolio of kit supplier deals, which includes providing the technical wear for the officials of international rugby tournaments and fixtures through a deal struck with international governing body World Rugby.

Through a sponsorship agreement with Basketball Australia, Macron also provides clothing for the technical staff and all national men’s and women’s teams, from the senior to junior teams.

The brand also has kit supplier deals with soccer clubs including English Premier League’s Crystal Palace, Serie A’s Udinese, and LaLiga sides Cadiz, Real Sociedad, and Levante.
