BetMGM, the sports betting joint venture between MGM Resorts International and gambling firm GVC Holdings, has partnered with the Arizona Cardinals to expand its presence in American football’s NFL.

Under the agreement, BetMGM will become the Cardinals’ sports betting partner and plans to open a sportsbook at the team’s State Farm Stadium for the 2022 season.

The move sees the betting company expand into Arizona, where it plans to bring its platform online once legalised sports betting launches in the state.

It has also teamed up with the locally-based Gila River Hotels and Casinos, which has had a long-term partnership with the Cardinals.

Michael Bidwill, the Cardinals owner, said: "This is a tremendous opportunity to build upon our long-standing relationship with Gila River and launch a new one with BetMGM.

“BetMGM’s expertise in this emerging space will provide a new and innovative way to engage and interact with our fans."
