Jevans Heads Line-up of London Olympic Bid Appointments
London 2012 has appointed Debbie Jevans as Director of Sport, Neil Wood as Finance Director and Charles Wijeratna as Commercial Director to complete the management team bidding to bring the Olympic Games to London.
Debbie will be responsible for ensuring that the proposed competition venues meet the technical requirements of each sport and for liaison with national and international sports governing bodies.
Debbie, a former junior Wimbledon champion and British under-21 doubles title-holder, has been involved in international sport for the past 12 years. She served as General Secretary of the International Tennis Federation and was responsible for tennis at the past five Olympic Games.
She will work as a consultant for London 2012 while continuing as an advisor to the ITF for the 2004 Olympic tennis events.
Commenting on her appointment, Debbie said:
‘In the UK we have a strong sporting heritage. We have the skills and ability to host a fantastic Olympic Games. I will be working closely with the national and international sporting bodies to ensure that our proposals meet the needs of the sportsmen and women who will participate in the 2012 Olympic Games.’
Neil joins London 2012 on secondment from Deloitte where he is a partner. Over the years Neil has advised a wide range of clients ranging from small owner managed enterprises to large governmental organisations and multinational corporations.
Commenting on his appointment, Neil said:
‘I’m delighted to be joining London 2012. We’ve already made excellent progress and I look forward being part of the team that brings the Olympic Games to London.’
Charles will be responsible for negotiating many of the commercial arrangements relating to the Bid and the Games and will also manage the legal function of the company. Charles has been working for the Bid since its inception and was instrumental in setting up the company. He previously worked as an investment banker with Dresdner Kleinwort Wasserstein and Clifford Chance.
