Hastings Direct On Court For 2005

HASTINGS DIRECT is to sponsor one of the world’s top grass court championships for a further two years in a new deal with the LTA announced today.

The Sussex-based motor insurer will be title sponsor of the Hastings Direct International Championships which is now firmly established in the women’s tennis calendar in the run-up to Wimbledon.

“We’re delighted to be extending our involvement with the event,” said Hastings Direct’s Chairman and CEO David Gundlach. 

“It’s a fantastic sport and a really great championships. We’ve enjoyed a highly successful three-year partnership with the LTA as we were involved in other projects before sponsoring the Hastings Direct International Championships in 2003.

“I feel confident that together with the LTA we’ll make what is already a prestigious and exciting event even bigger and better.”

The grasscourt championships, due to be played between the 11th and 18th of June 2005 at Devonshire Park, Eastbourne, regularly attracts 28 of the world’s top female players.

Last year drew world class WTA players including current champion and reigning US Open winner Svetlana Kuznetsova, current world number two and Olympic finalist Amelie Mauresmo and Japan’s Ai Sugiyama who went on to reach the quarterfinals at The Championships, Wimbledon.

Gavin Fletcher, Joint Championships Director, said: “The Hastings Direct International Championships offers tennis fans the chance to see some of the best women players in the world compete for £487,400 prize money.  With the support that we have received from Hastings Direct, we are confident that the event can continue to grow from strength to strength.”
