Between 15th September and 1st October, Eurosport broadcast high quality, 24 hour coverage of the Sydney Olympic Games. The result: The highest audience ratings since its creation! A total of 120 million different viewers, which means that half of all people who have access to the channel across Europe, watched the Olympic Games on Eurosport.

This figure shows an increase of 64% for the audience compared to the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta (73 million viewers) and an increase of 50% against the 1998 Winter Olympics in Nagano (80 million).

Despite the time difference with Australia, round-the-clock coverage was backed up by a unique interactive link with the athletes and action packed multimedia coverage on Eurosport, EurosportNews and eurosport.com.

Throughout the Olympics, Eurosport scored an average daily reach of over 30 million viewers with two record breaking days:

34 million viewers – 17/09/2000
36.8 million viewers – 24/09/2000

During the entire period of the Olympics, Eurosport’s cumulative reach came to 1.86 billion contacts. This remarkable figure puts the Sydney Olympic Games comfortably ahead of all sporting events ever broadcast on the channel!

www.eurosport.com also performed extremely well with more than 30 million page impressions in September.
