The Professional Darts Corporation (PDC) has secured a major rights renewal in the Netherlands with Nordic streaming service Viaplay, which will continue its coverage through 2032.

The long-term renewal will see Viaplay continue to air all PDC events, including major tournaments such as The Masters, UK Open, European Championship, and World Championships, as well as Premier League Darts and World Matchplay.

Viaplay has held rights in the Netherlands to PDC events since its launch in the country in 2021, with matches offered to customers with a streaming subscription or Viaplay TV+ subscription.

The renewal comes less than two weeks after the World Darts Championship final, which saw the Netherlands’ Gian van Veen lose 7-1 to England’s Luke Littler.

The first World Series of Darts tournament is set to start on January 15, with Dutch players Van Veen, Michael van Gerwen, and Danny Noppert competing.

The rights consolidate Viaplay’s growing sports portfolio in the Netherlands, having secured a long-term agreement to air motor racing’s Formula 1 last year. The streamer also holds premium soccer rights, including the English Premier League and Germany’s Bundesliga.

Meanwhile, the agreement has strengthened the PDC books after renewing its rights in the UK with commercial broadcaster ITV until 2028, while its new five-year deal with UK pay-TV broadcaster Sky Sports started with the World Championship in December.

The recently completed final of the World Darts Championship, played at London’s iconic Alexandra Palace venue, attracted a peak audience of 2.5 million in the UK across Sky’s channels.
