Cisco, the wireless technology and communications heavyweight, has extended its technology partnership with the United States Golf Association (USGA) governing body.

Through a multi-year renewal, the company will continue as the USGA’s official technology partner, and will provide connectivity to the Riviera Country Club and Shinnecock Hills Golf Club venues for the 2026 championships.

The extended tie-up will see Cisco and the USGA collaborate to deploy AI-ready infrastructure and advanced solutions “that help ensure the USGA’s network can support current and future device loads, as well as emerging AI applications, in complex and dynamic environments.”

USGA will also have access to the Cisco AI Defense tool, for integrity and security services to defend against AI-powered threats.

Cisco’s technology will be used to provide high-performance connectivity at this year’s US Women’s Open championships at Riviera Country Club and the men’s US Open at Shinnecock Hills Golf Club.

The tech firm will deliver Wi-Fi to more than 240,000 expected fans, media, and other operators across the championship weeks.

The brand has had a technology partnership with the USGA since 2018. The last deal between the two parties was unveiled in May 2023.

Jon Podany, chief commercial officer at the USGA, said: “Cisco has been an essential partner in helping the USGA build a technology foundation worthy of the world's greatest golf championships.

“This extended partnership ensures we're not just ready for today's demands, but well-positioned to push the boundaries of what's possible at our championships and beyond to meet the changing needs of our fans and customers.”

Rob McQueen, vice president of global sponsorships at Cisco, added: “We’re proud to partner with the USGA as it enters a new era of AI-driven innovation. As AI becomes foundational to the future of golf, Cisco’s leadership in networking, security, and digital infrastructure will help the USGA deliver smarter, more connected, and more immersive experiences for fans around the world.”

The U.S. Women’s Open will this year take place from June 4 to 7, while the men's edition will be held from June 18 to 21.
