MTV, the Finnish commercial pay-TV network, has secured rights to the country's top-tier domestic ice hockey competitions through 2031-32.

An exclusive deal to that effect was unveiled (and brokered) by the Commercial Sports Media (CSM) Swedish agency last week.

This represents a five-season extension - the current deal between the ice hockey body and CSM runs through 2026-27.

The media rights deal was struck by MTV with Liiga, the organization that will take over the running of premier ice hockey in Finland from 2027-28 onwards. That campaign will see promotion and relegation introduced to the top echelons of ice hockey in that market for the first time.

The tie-up ensures that the top two Finnish ice hockey divisions will be exclusively available on MTV until at least mid-2032.

CSM has been the exclusive media rights advisory partner of Liiga since 2017-18.

Mikko Pulkkinen, Liiga's chief executive, commented: "The renewal of our media rights partnership for the next five seasons marks an important milestone for the league. Throughout the process, Commercial Sports Media demonstrated exceptional professionalism, market knowledge, and strategic advisory capabilities. Having worked together for more than ten years, they have become a trusted partner to our organisation."

The 2025-26 campaign of the 16-team Liiga began last September and ended in May, with Tappara winning the post-season playoffs and thus being crowned champions.
