Multinational bank BNP Paribas will continue as the main partner of the Roland-Garros Grand Slam tennis tournament after extending its partnership through 2031.

The deal will see BNP Paribas continue as the primary sponsor of the iconic clay-court event in Paris for another five years, with its current deal due to end following the 2027 edition.

The deal was announced during the first few days of competition at this year's tournament, which is running between May 24 and June 7.

The first tie-up between the bank and the Roland-Garros organizers came in the early 1970s. Last year, the tie-up was valued at $19.5 million annually.

Gilles Moretton, the French Tennis Federation's president, has commented: "For more than fifty years, BNP Paribas has played a key role in supporting the development of the Paris Grand Slam, as well as French tennis more broadly, through its support of the federation’s policies. We look forward to taking on the next challenges together."

Other top-tier commercial partners of the Paris event include airline Emirates, clothing brand Lacoste, car manufacturer Renault, and watch brand Rolex.

Thierry Laborde, BNP Paribas' deputy chief operating officer, added: "This renewal confirms our shared vision for tennis, from amateur players to the biggest Grand Slam tournament. We thank the French Tennis Federation for honouring us with its trust and collaboration over so many years, a partnership we are proud to extend."

The brand is also the title sponsor of the US tennis' Indian Wells Masters, through a deal - extended this January - which runs through 2029 at the earliest.

The US tournament has officially been called the BNP Paribas Open since 2016.
