Bangladesh, Afghanistan among markets included in 2027 ICC events tender

Nepal, Singapore, Malaysia, and Hong Kong are also covered by the global cricket body's media rights sales process.

The International Cricket Council (ICC) has opened up one-year broadcast rights tender processes in a range of Asian markets, including Bangladesh and Afghanistan.

These tenders have been unveiled by the sport's global governing body today, and cover 2027 only - it is likely, therefore, that another process will have to take place in the same markets in early 2028.

In total, they extend across six countries - Bangladesh, Afghanistan, Nepal, Singapore, Malaysia, and Hong Kong.

Of those six, cricket is by far and away the most popular in Bangladesh and Afghanistan, with the national men's teams of both nations competing at every major ICC World Cup.

The rights on offer, despite only covering one calendar year, still incorporate a trio of major ICC events, including the Men's Cricket World Cup 2027, which will take place across South Africa, Zimbabwe, and Namibia, next October and November.

The inaugural ICC Women's Champions Trophy is also included.

The governing body has called for interested parties to contact iccmediarights2024-2031@icc-cricket.com to receive the required documentation, as well as further information if necessary.

In Bangladesh, the last Cricket World Cup - held in 2023 in India - was shown live by a combination of T Sports and Gazi TV, while in Afghanistan, free-to-air network Ariana TV covered the tournament (which was won by Australia).

Bangladesh was actually one of the countries included in an ICC media rights tender process in mid-2025, which was meant to find a broadcast partner in that market for the 2026-28 cycle - however, this has not transpired, leading to another sales process being enacted.

In terms of 2028 events which will need to be covered by a future tender, this number includes both men's and women's Twenty20 World Cups in the latter half of that year.

Countries with deals already in place for next year's World Cup include India (Jiostar and Disney+ Hotstar), Australia (Amazon Prime Video), the UK (Sky Sports), New Zealand (Sky NZ), the Caribbean and Latin America (ESPN), the US (Willow TV), and South Africa (Canal+).
