W-Sport, the TV channel dedicated to women’s sport, went live yesterday in the Nordic markets on Samsung TV Plus.

This move, orchestrated through a partnership between W-Sport and the HelloYou FAST (free, ad-supported, streaming TV) platform, is the first step in W-Sport's plan to further expand across the region, the channel has outlined.

It comes only a few days after W-Sport – initially launched in July 2021 – went live on the Amazon Prime Video streaming platform in both France and the Netherlands. W-Sport is now available to more viewers through Prime Video, with subscriptions costing €1.99 per month.

The overall W-Sport network was co-founded by Mickey Rourke – also the co-founder and chief executive of the Premier Sports UK and Irish pay-TV channels – and its chief executive, Kelly Butler.

Ramon Zwartkruis, co-founder at HelloYou, said: "We are very excited to team up with W-Sport and launch their premium women's sports channel on helloyou.tv via Samsung TV Plus Nordics. Our ambition is to deliver quality content that is easily accessible through a clear and appealing channel lineup."

In terms of its European presence, the channel is also available in Portugal (through a deal with international mobile phone operator Vodafone struck last year), Belgium, Luxembourg, Turkey, and Lithuania.

It also has distribution partners in parts of Asia, the Middle East, North Africa, and sub-Saharan Africa.

The service offers up to 10 live matches weekly from some of the world's top-tier women's soccer properties (such as Italy's Serie A Femminile), as well as covering action from sports including netball, basketball, athletics, equestrian, surfing, and triathlon.

As well as live women's sports fixtures, content includes live and delayed event coverage, as well as magazine programming and documentaries.
