The second edition of the Sportel Rendez-vous Bali sports business conference takes place later this week from February 22 to 23.

This year's conference at the InterContinental Bali Resort, put on with collaboration from Transvision and Cubmu, will feature a series of exciting masterclasses, presentations, and exhibitions around the latest trends revolutionizing the sports and media broadcast industry.

The event will provide the European Sportel community with “a unique opportunity … to meet the most consequential C-level decision makers within the Asia-Pacific (APAC) sports business industry,” Sportel Bali’s organizers have said.

The event aims to “bring to the table a melting pot of international culture, experience and vision.”

Confirmed speakers so far include representatives from organizations such as Bundesliga International, IMG, Fox Sports Australia, the Asian Football Confederation, and BeIN Sports Asia.

Major international sports properties to be attending include representatives from soccer's FIFA, the Bundesliga, Serie A, and Premier League, basketball's NBA, tennis’ ATP, the International Olympic Committee, as well as from heavyweight agencies such as IMG, Infront, and Sportfive Asia.

Other companies that will have a presence there, meanwhile, include the Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Union, China Sports Media, Sportradar, Warner Bros. Discovery, Mediapro, and WSC Sports.

Hot topics will include over-the-top (OTT) broadcasting, streaming and content delivery, digital piracy and how to tackle it, the rise of the Indian subcontinent as a major sporting market, the boom in women's sports, direct-to-consumer (DTC) and its appeal for niche sports, how AI is transforming the sports media landscape, and how best to monetize sustainability in the industry.

The inaugural Sportel Rendez-vous Bali – the first event in the international Rendez-vous series for four years – took place in February 2023.

Laurent Puons, chief executive of Monaco Mediax – which runs the Bali event, as well as Sportel’s other 2024 conferences in Monaco and Buenos Aires, Argentina – has said: “Renewing Sportel in Bali is strategic considering the development of new technologies, digital engagement, innovation, and esport sectors in the region. In addition, as the fourth largest population and one of the fastest-growing economies in the world, the Indonesian population has a massive interest in sports and there is a huge development potential for sports broadcasting in the country."

Following Sportel Rendez-vous Bali, the conference will head to Argentina for the first time in May. Buenos Aires will take the slot which has been occupied by Miami for the last few years, across May 14 and 15.

This year's Sportel Monaco, meanwhile, is set to take place between October 28 and 30.
