rEvolution, the US-based integrated global sports marketing agency, has acquired London-based public relations and communications agency Sine Qua Non (SQN) as it looks to expand its global footprint.

SQN specializes in tech-focused public relations, communications, and sponsorship in sports, with a client list that includes car brand Hyundai, Indian telecommunications giant Tata Communications, data management company NetApp, and car manufacturer Toyota.

The acquisition will increase rEvolution’s portfolio of global clients that include tech services firm Capgemini, auto parts manufacturer Continental Tire, luxury sports car brand Lamborghini, restaurant chain Chipotle, and British motor racing team McLaren Racing.

John Rowady, rEvolution president and founder, said: “Having had the chance to partner with SQN previously, we have thoroughly enjoyed getting to know their team and have seen their exceptional work first-hand.

“For rEvolution, this acquisition is an alignment of two agencies with a shared vision for delivering integrated services, and also allows us to offer a deeper level of services and integration out of the UK.”

The acquisition will also see rEvolution take over SQN’s office in London, which will join its headquarters in Chicago, Illinois, and offices in Detroit (Michigan) Indianapolis (Indiana), and London.

SQN co-founders Clare and Chris Ritchie and managing director Chris Hughes will be given leadership roles, while all current staff will join rEvolution in their client relations, content, experiential, social media, integrated marketing, and communications roles.

The acquisition comes amid rEvolution’s efforts to expand and bolster its London office, with a spate of new hires over recent years.

In 2019, it appointed Nathalie de Regt as business director of research, and George Gilmore as business director, before hiring experienced Morgan Merle as creative services director and Lagardere Sport’s Jamie Salmon as an executive business consultant a year later.

In March 2022, Matt Kiernan joined as associate director of its London office. At the time, the agency said Kiernan would play an integral role in expanding and activating its client base in the UK, where will work closely with managing director Merrick Haydon.
