Brazilian broadcaster Globo has renewed its broadcast deal with the Rio Open tennis tournament, wrapping up exclusive coverage of the event through 2031.
The prominent pay-TV heavyweight has covered the ATP 500 series event since its first edition in 2014, and will continue to do so for the next five editions of the annual tournament, taking the pair’s total relationship to 18 years.

This exclusive deal covers both free-to-air and pay-TV rights spanning both linear and streaming distribution.
Coverage will primarily be disseminated through the SporTV pay-TV offering, which will showcase all matches from center court throughout the seven-day tournament.
Meanwhile, free coverage will come in the form of the Ge TV digital offering, which will showcase at least one match per day in the opening round, as well as the semi-finals and finals matches.
This will be supported by Globo-produced ancillary content for the broadcaster’s social media and digital platforms surrounding the event.
Globo has also increased its sponsorship commitment to the Rio Open, including brand visibility on-court, and the entitlement of an “exclusive” new lounge for brand activations.
The tournament, which has a prize purse of over $2 million, features 60 of the world’s best players competing at the 6,200-seat Jockey Club stadium in Rio de Janeiro.
Since its debut in 2014, the tournament’s principal sponsor has been telecommunications company Claro, which holds presenting rights and is the biggest financial backer of the event.
The 2026 edition of the Rio Open surpassed the 40-sponsor mark with 44 brands in total partnering the event.
Other sponsors in the Rio Open’s top ‘master sponsors’ tier include watch brand Rolex, oil major Shell, and Abu Dhabi-based investment firm Mubadala Capital, which owns the event itself.
Indeed, since 2023, Mubadala Capital has held 100% ownership of the Rio Open, after acquiring the 50% of the tournament it did not already own from the IMG agency in April that year.
As the only ATP Tour 500 event in South America, and the only ATP event in Brazil, the tournament is important for tennis’ profile in the country.
Of particular interest in the market is 20-year-old starlet Joao Fonseca, currently ranked number 26 in the world, who triumphed in the doubles category at the Rio Open in 2026. Fonseca is also sponsored by Claro, and his continued participation in the event is a major boost.
In recent years, it has attracted high-profile talent such as Alexander Zverev (2025), Carlos Alcaraz (2022-24), Cameron Norrie (2023-24), and Lorenzo Musetti (2023, 2025).
